Fort Qu’Appelle, Canada— Hatch has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Saskatchewan First Nations Safety Association (SFNSA) to supply safety programs, systems, training and guidance to the association that will deliver programs to First Nations communities across Saskatchewan.

The SFNSA services 74 First Nations communities in Saskatchewan. Their purpose is to develop and integrate occupational health, safety, and risk management strategies and awareness campaigns into First Nation communities and organizations. They draw upon resources of companies that have sophisticated safety management systems in place to help First Nations communities develop their own practices. Partners in this program include Mosaic, SaskEnergy, and Enbridge, among others.

Hatch is the latest partner to join in this initiative. Hatch experts will be coaching First Nations communities on establishing their own Safety Management Systems. This partnership unites two of Hatch’s important values—safety and progressive Indigenous participation. It is part of Hatch’s vision to work together with the communities in which we live and work to affect positive change.

“It has never been more important for businesses to work collaboratively with their host communities and truly engage the people who live in them. This MOU marks a step forward to deliver on community needs by marrying them with Hatch safety expertise,” said Chelsie Klassen, Director of Indigenous Engagement at Hatch.
