Seattle, WA, United States, April 28, 2024 - Hatch is proud to share its pivotal role in the launch of Sound Transit’s 2 Line’s eight new stations. This project, which launched on April 27, is a landmark achievement in Hatch’s long-standing partnership with Sound Transit, dating back to 1998, and underscores its commitment to enhancing Seattle’s transportation system.

The inauguration of the stations, which connect South Bellevue to Redmond Technology, represents a significant advancement in public transit, offering trains every 10 minutes from early morning until late evening. The East Link Extension, including Mercer Island and Judkins Park Stations, is set to further expand early next year.

“We envision public transportation as more than just a means to an end. We strive to create a system that is not only convenient but also enjoyable and equitable. Our dedication to sustainable solutions is evident in our efforts towards electrified vehicle procurement and the design of power systems that significantly reduce carbon emissions,” states Winston Simmonds, regional director, Infrastructure USA.

Hatch facilitated the procurement of a fleet of 62 low-floor, light rail vehicles and supported the acquisition of an additional 152 cars to meet the increasing ridership demands. Our daily collaboration with Sound Transit’s operations, maintenance, and engineering departments, alongside King County Metro, has been crucial in maintaining the highest standards of service and sustainability. Hatch was also responsible for the traction power substation, distribution systems, overhead catenary system, signals, and communications, ensuring that the project’s systems design elements are executed flawlessly.

As we celebrate the launch of 2 Line, we reflect on our role in this transformative project. Hatch not only provided technical solutions but fostered the vision of public transit as a cornerstone of vibrant, thriving communities. We look forward to watching the positive impact of 2 Line unfold.
