Mississauga, Canada – Hatch is very pleased to announce that the Mid-Halton WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) Phase IV/V Expansion project has received the 2017 Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) Project of the Year Award in the Structures, greater than $50 million category.

Halton Region owns the Mid-Halton WWTP, which was originally commissioned in 1991 and through multiple expansions was sized to treat 75 MLD to service portions of the Town of Oakville, Town of Milton, Town of Halton Hills and the City of Burlington. As a key and centrally located treatment plant, ongoing expansion was required to provide additional capacity to meet a growing demography and the increasing development needs in Halton Region.

In 2008, Halton Region retained Hatch to implement the engineering and overall project management of the environmental assessment (EA) phase. We were then brought on for the design and construction phases of the plant's expansion which began in 2010 and 2014 respectively. Our scope of work has involved conceptual design, public, stakeholder and government agency consultation, equipment pre-selection, technical reviews, environmental compliance, operational analysis, and contract administration

David Mutombo, Managing Director, Water said, “The project team maintained a ‘project first’ mentality throughout the entire project, to ensure that it could be delivered in the best way possible. Open communication and dialogue was encouraged and it was through this mindset that the delivery of this project was completed on time and under budget with minimal impacts to the environment, while providing the highest overall benefit to the residents of the Halton Region. Congratulations to the entire team for their contributions to this award-winning project!”
