Hatch wins National Planning Award for groundbreaking Jindee Innovation Project

Hatch has been awarded the Australian National Planning Award for Strategic Planning Project by the Planning Institute of Australia. This national recognition celebrates a project more than 25 years in the making that redefines what’s possible in coastal community planning. Jindee is a walkable, mixed-use village located along Western Australia’s coastline, designed to reflect the region’s unique landscape and lifestyle while setting a new benchmark for sustainable urban development.

The project was delivered in close collaboration with Estates Development Company, Studio LFA, the City of Wanneroo, and together with leading national technical consultants. At its core is the Jindee Coastal Village Structure Plan, underpinned by a bespoke, locally calibrated Form-Based Code. This innovative framework integrates SmartGrowth principles and the Transect model to guide everything from building design to public realm and environmental integration.

Jindee is a living demonstration of how long-term vision, community-first thinking, and design excellence can come together to create a place that is both timeless and future-ready. From its tree-lined streets and diverse housing options to its commitment to ecological sensitivity and public space, Jindee offers a replicable model for sustainable development in Australia and beyond.
