Hatch awarded contract to deliver The Wave Stage 1 Brownfield Package
Hatch, with its partners Laing O'Rourke and Georgiou, have been awarded the contract to deliver The Wave Stage 1 Brownfield Package by the Queensland Government.
Leveraging experience in complex brownfield rail delivery, the Beerwah Coast Connect consortium (Laing O’Rourke, Georgiou, and Hatch) will form an alliance with the Queensland Government and Queensland Rail to deliver this critical infrastructure—part of a broader Wave program—ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This project will create lasting benefits for surrounding communities through a combination of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions, genuine care for the environment, support for local people and businesses, and social inclusion.
Amanda Miles, Hatch Regional Director, Transit, said:
“It’s full steam ahead for this exceptional placemaking and transport-oriented design project. Hatch is proud to be a part of the BCC consortium, which will deliver The Wave and help transform the Sunshine Coast economy. This level of accessibility means better travel choices, new jobs, and stronger, thriving communities for tomorrow—a lasting legacy project for 2032 and many generations beyond.”
Paul Barrie, Alliance Manager, said:
“I am so proud of our team who have all pulled together and come at it with a real sense of ownership and passion. It's been a real pleasure working with the Queensland Government and Queensland Rail, who have shown how invested they are in us setting up for success, to achieve a solid and sustainable outcome together.”
“The depth of work, ease of collaboration, passion to strive for better outcomes, better solutions, and better ways of working, have set a solid foundation and I look forward to what we accomplish during delivery.”
The Wave Stage 1 Brownfield Package comprises construction of new rail configuration, a dual passenger line, and a rail viaduct overpass across Steve Irwin Way; a redeveloped and improved Beerwah station and precinct area; and new train stabling facilities at Beerwah.
This package of work forms a core part of The Wave, which will connect growing areas of the Sunshine Coast to Moreton Bay, Brisbane, and beyond, reduce travel times, encourage greater use of public transport, and help ease road congestion.
