Hatch welcomes Prime Minister Carney’s Arctic vision to reinforce Canada’s sovereignty, community resilience and defence readiness

March 18, 2026

Mississauga, Canada — Hatch welcomes the Government of Canada’s recent announcements to defend, build, and strengthen Canada’s Northern and Arctic regions through more than $40 billion in planned investment.

The Prime Minister’s announcement, which reinforces the move from reliance to resilience, is a much-needed development for defending our Arctic sovereignty. The execution of the plan will develop critical minerals, clean energy, and trade corridors to unlock the full potential of the region while enhancing our sovereignty with additional defence infrastructure. This is the scale of investment Canada’s North has long needed.

The scope and complexity of Arctic development will also drive significant job creation across the region and within the engineering and construction sectors. The related projects will require specialized Arctic engineering expertise, Northern and remote construction skills, and close collaboration with Indigenous partners, creating meaningful employment opportunities across Canada.

“Prime Minister Carney’s plan reinforces that infrastructure is sovereignty. It calls for partners who have already proven they can deliver in this environment. These are generational investments that will shape how Canada lives, works, and operates in the North. Done right, they will build momentum that benefits communities, industry, and the country for decades to come.” — Robert Francki, Global Managing Director, Infrastructure – Transportation, Water and Defence, Hatch.

Canada’s close cooperation with Nordic countries further reinforces the importance of aligning infrastructure plans across the Arctic region. Broad collaboration on defence readiness, logistics, and critical industries highlights the need for interoperable, adaptable infrastructure that supports both domestic priorities and international partnerships in the North.

Hatch has delivered much of the mining-related infrastructure, including ports, airfields, roads, and power north of the 60th parallel, bringing decades of experience in remote and Arctic environments. Our work balances technical excellence with environmental stewardship and meaningful community partnerships. We look forward to contributing our expertise to projects that enhance security, connectivity, and sustainability across Canada’s Arctic and northern regions.

This is a defining moment for Canadian industry to step forward with the expertise and capacity to deliver. Hatch stands ready to help bring the government’s vision to life through enduring infrastructure for a stronger, more resilient North.
