Hatch’s Ellenbrook Project Named Best Masterplanned Community in Australia

Hatch has been recognized with two of Australia’s most prestigious industry awards for its planning work on the Ellenbrook masterplanned community in Western Australia:

• 2025 UDIA WA Award for Excellence
• Property Council of Australia’s Colorbond® Steel Award for Best Master Planned Community

Ellenbrook, located in Perth’s northeast, is the largest and most awarded masterplanned community in Western Australia. Developed in partnership with Satterley Property Group (formerly LWP) and DevelopmentWA, the project spans over 1,200 hectares and is home to more than 35,000 residents, with growth projected to exceed 70,000 by 2036.

Hatch’s planning team played a central role in shaping the structure plan, land use strategy, and long-term development vision for Ellenbrook. The result is a thriving, walkable, and inclusive community that has become a national exemplar of sustainable suburban development.

Key features of Ellenbrook include:

• Eight distinct villages connected by green corridors and shared paths
• More than 60 parks, 35 kilometers of cycleways, and 14 schools
• A vibrant town centre with 45 hectares of retail and commercial space
• A new Metronet train station offering a 31-minute commute to Perth CBD

Ellenbrook was also one of the first communities in Australia to adopt large-scale water-sensitive urban design and fibre-to-the-home internet. Its $3.5-million Community Trust Fund has supported countless resident-led initiatives, reinforcing a strong sense of place and belonging.
