Non-Destructive testing team wins national innovation award

Edmonton, Canada—Hatch was recently awarded the NDT Innovation Award from the Canadian Institute for Non-destructive Evaluation (CINDE) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the improvement of non-destructive testing technologies and techniques in Canada. Dr. Afshin Sadri, global director of Hatch’s Non-Destructive Testing Group and a world-renowned expert, was on hand to receive the award at the NDT in Canada 2019 conference in Edmonton, Alberta, hosted by the CINDE.

“I was very pleased and humbled to accept this award on behalf of our team. It’s a testament to the spirit of innovation that is fundamental to Hatch’s culture,” said Dr. Sadri.

Dr. Sadri and his team are leading innovators in the development of NDT techniques, including holding multiple patents in the US, Canada, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

They have been recognized widely for their contribution to the development of non-destructive testing technologies. Most recently, the team was awarded the MetSoc Innovation Award for the acousto ultrasonic-echo (AU-E) technique, a method invented by Hatch to measure refractory thickness and condition in operation smelting furnaces. It was the first time that this award has been given to a non-destructive testing topic. The team was also recently honored at the AMM Congress in Kazakhstan for their work with Eurasian Group (ERG) on a project to use AU-E technology to inspect 11 electric furnaces in order to prioritize and optimize ERG’s maintenance schedule to enhance safety and improve production time and profit.
