Nikolas Badminton, Futurist, Author, Advisory, and Foresight Thought Leader

Hatch’s annual Working Together Safely forum, hosted on April 25 in Toronto, Ontario, was a transformative event. Themed “Revolutionizing safety: A journey of innovation,” it showcased a fusion of cutting-edge technology and human-centric safety practices, aimed at shaping a safer and more resilient future.

This year’s forum provided an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, clients, partners, contractors, and colleagues. Against the backdrop of evolving risks and opportunities, attendees explored strategies to navigate innovation in safety and ensure worker well-being.

Global and domestic economic shifts, regional growth, geopolitics, AI, and market dynamics are changing the world. Renowned futurist Nikolas Badminton delivered a captivating keynote, Facing our Futures: Looking to 2030 and Beyond. By encouraging us to shift our collective mindset from “what is” to “what if,” Badminton honed the importance of scanning for signals, looking for trends, sketching scenarios, and sharing ideas to change the way we implement positive change in workplace safety.

Badminton’s candor and direct delivery style matched the tone of the rest of the day, which was, at its core, a valuable demonstration of diverse thought. Insights shared by our partners at Creyos, EDF Renewables, SALFA MONTAJES, BHP, and Glencore covered a wide range of topics, highlighting the multifaceted nature of safety innovation.

The day ended with an invigorating workshop led by Badminton, who encouraged the audience to look at current trends and strategize the ways foresight can inform our projects and decision-making processes.
