Highlights

  • East Harbour Transit Hub (EHTH) is a major interchange that is part of the City of Toronto’s $1.689-billion SmartTrack Stations program.
  • The EHTH Alliance Project is transforming infrastructure to enable the transit hub, connecting to Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines, as well as the future Ontario Line subway.
  • A collaborative alliance delivery model was chosen to drive progress, mitigate risk, and deliver a world-class transit facility focused on passenger experience, and urban development, meeting the evolving needs of the community.
  • The East Harbour Transit Hub will be an economic catalyst, supporting the East Harbour Development Area and serving as a gateway to the Portlands redevelopment.
  • With a commitment to diversity and inclusion at all levels of the project, women are represented in 30% of the Alliance Leadership Team, 55% of the Alliance Management Team, and 40% of the Alliance Project Team across all roles.

 

Solutions

  • Early study phases were key components to recognizing and unlocking the benefits at East Harbour
      • Developed a business case and strategy to optimize station design.
      • Oversaw and managed the transit hub project, offering engineering and architectural support for developing the train station, transit hub.
  • Participated in the project's early study phases, working directly for First Gulf/Cadillac Fairview. Continued as a partner of the EHTH Alliance, acting as Design Non-owner Participant and the primary Engineer/Architect of Record for the station.
  • The East Harbour Transit Hub Alliance, formed with Hatch, Rail Connect Partners (RCP) and Metrolinx, is responsible for collaboratively developing infrastructure, aiming to connect communities and deliver value safely is now in the Project Alliance Agreement Phase.
  • Advancement and completion of detailed design, operating as consultant and overall Engineer/Architect of record for the station, overseeing project management, architectural design, detailed engineering, and construction design support services.
  • New and upgraded infrastructure elements will be developed, including a new Eastern Avenue Bridge, Broadview Avenue bridge and road extension, railway retaining structures, heavy rail tracks, and EHTH station facilities.

Vision

  • The EHTH will offer benefits to the community with amenities and accessible drop-off; connections to the future Broadview Ave extension; platforms for local and express train service; and convenient single train connections to multiple destinations.
  • Once complete, EHTH will connect the Ontario Line subway system to the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO rail corridors, offering riders more transit options while reducing commute times and easing congestion
  • With regional growth estimated at 9 million people by 2041, combined with Ontario Line users, the station is expected to serve about 100,000 daily riders.
  • Service levels planned as part of GO Expansion expect GO train service at EHTH every five minutes. 
  • A design focused on safety, passenger experience, and a recognizable identity that signifies transit and urban development.
