Branching out from conventional design Harbourside West Pedestrian Overpass

Abstract

Hatch Mott MacDonald was retained by the City of North Vancouver for the design, management and construction administration for the Harbourside West Pedestrian Overpass – a vital connection in the Spirit Trail greenway. The serpentine bridge provides safe, direct access over three railway tracks using a network arch for the main span and approach ramps supported on steel ‘tree’ piers. The design is a functional, innovative and aesthetically pleasing form constructed on a strict budget.
