Hatch’s contribution to Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer nears $2 million

September 27, 2019

Toronto, Canada— For the eighth consecutive year, Hatch’s offices in the Greater Toronto Area have come together to support Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Hatch’s participation in Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is the company’s largest employee-led philanthropic initiative. Ten Hatch teams involving more than 120 employee participants spend months raising funds, which are generously matched by the company. This year, Hatch’s contribution is expected to top $419,000, bringing Hatch’s eight-year total to nearly $2 million!

Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is a uniquely Canadian event, combining Canada’s love for hockey with a great cause. The event includes 167 teams and more than 1,900 participants, battling it out in hundreds of spirited road hockey games all while raising funds and awareness for a cause that is so close to so many. The monies raised go to benefit the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. It also raises funds for The Princess Margaret's research arm, the Ontario Cancer Institute, which includes the Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute.

“I think it’s safe to say that all of our colleagues at Hatch have been touched by cancer, whether it be themselves, their families, or their friends. I think that’s why we all love this event—it’s a great way to give back to a cause that affects so many, and to have fun while we’re doing it,” said Bruce MacKay, regional managing director at Hatch and one of Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer’s Board of Governors. “At Hatch, we all believe strongly in our corporate mission of building a better world through positive change. Events like Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer allow us to do just that—contribute to solving one of the world’s toughest challenges by supporting leading research that will hopefully allow us to one day find a cure. Wouldn’t that be positive change at its best!”

Hatch has been the recipient of the Corporate Cup Challenge, which recognizes the top fundraising organization, each year that the company has participated in the challenge and is hoping to take home the cup yet again this year.

The 9th annual Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is being held on Saturday, September 28 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
