Hatch awarded Most Outstanding Company in Gender Diversity in AustraliaBrisbane, Australia – Hatch is pleased to have been awarded the Most Outstanding Company in Gender Diversity by Engineers Australia and the National Committee for Women in Engineering. The award seeks to identify, recognise and reward companies that strive towards national engineering excellence by encouraging gender diversity.

Engineers Australia, Australia’s principal engineering association representing around 100,000 professionals at every level across a variety of industries, invite companies to submit applications for the prestigious award program. Applicants for the Most Outstanding Company in Gender Diversity award are judged on a range of criteria covering strategic projects within the company that demonstrate recruiting, retaining, and recognising female engineers; effort in improving policies and procedures; the degree to which the company fosters career progression and skills development of female engineers; and the number of female and male engineers that are achieving professional accreditation.

“The quality of this year’s nominations for the Gender Diversity Awards was really pleasing and the Awards committee had a tough time picking a winner. Hatch’s application was excellent and demonstrated the programs and policies the company has established to foster the development of female engineers within the company such as mentoring, ongoing professional development activities, flexible working arrangements, and regular gender pay equity reviews. With these policies in place, Hatch is clearly acknowledging the importance of gender diversity in the engineering profession,” Hayley Rohrlach, chair, National Committee for Women in Engineering.

Earlier this year, Hatch was accredited by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency in Australia as one of 20 new organisations introduced as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation holder.

“The engineering profession of the future will look different than it has in the past. By becoming a more flexible and inclusive profession, we attract more diversity of thought and come up with better solutions. At Hatch, we focus on positive change. We thrive on diversity, we strive to attract the best people, and we work in inclusive teams so that we can take on the toughest challenges of this new era,” said Jan Kwak, Hatch’s regional managing director of Australia-Asia.

Hatch has been working to improve and implement programs to encourage more gender balance, both within the company and within the wider profession. Hatch recently reviewed and improved flexible work and leave options to support the lifestyle of employees, focused on initiatives to attract and retain women in the organisation at all levels, introduced an inclusive leadership development program, and are regularly analysing equity in pay, regardless of gender.

“We acknowledge that there is still a long way to go. The initiatives that we, and our industry partners, have put in place are setting the foundations to continually improve gender diversity within engineering,” said Kwak.
