Canada’s Best Managed—Hatch earns Platinum Club status for the fourth year in a row

March 10, 2017

Hatch has been named one of Canada's Best Managed companies for the tenth consecutive year and has earned Platinum Club status for the fourth year in a row.

Results were unveiled in the March 9, 2017, edition of Canadian Business, where each Best Managed company is featured.

Hatch’s Joe Lombard, global managing director, metals, commented, “Hatch is a highly innovative and entrepreneurial culture—a flat, connected organization where people are passionate about bringing the best minds, technologies, and ideas together to deliver exceptional results. This is what makes Hatch different, and a truly great place to work.”

The Best Managed Companies competition is one of the country’s leading business awards programs, recognizing excellence in Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues that exceed $10 million. It is dedicated to raising the profile businesses who continuously outperform their competitors through a commitment to fearless leadership, relentless innovation, a culture of teamwork, and a dynamic business environment.

Each winning firm displayed the skills and capacity expected of high-performing businesses: smart strategies, strong processes, great corporate cultures, and solvency. What made this year’s winning companies truly stand out, however, was their ability to be bold. Judged by a panel of experts from Deloitte, an international management consulting firm; CIBC, one of Canada's largest banks; MacKay CEO forums, the highest impact peer group for results-oriented CEOs in Canada; Smith School of Business, Queens University; and Canadian Business magazine, each winning company was also seen to be led by people who set high expectations; fight inertia; invest in promising people and projects; innovate relentlessly; and who are open to change.

In an article published in Canadian Business in advance of this year’s winners announcement, John Bianchini, chief executive officer, explained how, when faced with a global financial crisis, Hatch revolutionized its business without losing focus on its people. “Our clients were demanding new skills, new ideas, new products, and new services. We’ve had to rethink our entire business—this means putting a stronger emphasis on community engagement and environmental sustainability while assisting clients with capital generation and digital solutions.” Faced with some of the toughest challenges our clients have seen in decades, Hatch refers to this change as the ‘new era’. Bianchini continued, “We couldn’t do any of this without first understanding that employee engagement is directly tethered to both the long-term vitality of our firm and client satisfaction. Frankly, we wouldn’t have any credibility in helping our clients manage their businesses if we couldn’t manage our own.”

Hatch is honored to be recognized among this year's recipients and extends its congratulations to all those awarded.
