27 projects, C$97.5 billion: Hatch a key player in Canadian infrastructure and energy

February 7, 2017

Top 100 ProjectsEach year, industry magazine ReNew Canada builds a comprehensive list of the top projects in Canadian infrastructure, energy, healthcare, and education. It researches and analyses hundreds of developments at different stages of discussion, design, and construction. The detailed report provides exclusive information about each project’s cost, owners, key players and contractors, construction status, site updates, financial arrangements, and date of substantial completion.

Recently, it released its 2017 Top 100 Projects Report, ranking Canada’s biggest undertakings by capital value. Once again, Hatch has achieved Platinum Elite status, participating in 27 of the top-rated projects worth a total of C$97.5 billion.

“I’m incredibly proud of the results shown in this report,” says Michael Schatz, global managing director for Infrastructure at Hatch. “When I first grabbed hold of a copy, I quickly realized that Hatch was named in every single one of the top five projects; eight of the top 10; and 27 overall. While this is just one report, it’s a clear demonstration of our strength in both the infrastructure and energy sectors—and our particular leadership in the Canadian transportation market, where we were listed on almost every project in the publication.”

This year’s report lists over C$186 billion in infrastructure investments in Canada—$25 billion more than the previous year—thanks to the nuclear refurbishment projects announced in Ontario in 2016. The energy sector represented the largest overall capital investment for projects that made the Top 100 list, with 29 projects valued at $83 billion. The transit sector was second with 23 projects worth a combined $48.5 billion, and transportation the third largest investment area with 18 projects valued at $33.3 billion.
