Andrew Strain
Global Managing Director , Corporate Development and Investments
For 24 years, Andrew Strain has led, structured, and negotiated some of Hatch’s most complex integration transactions, propelling him to his board appointment in late 2023.
Andrew leads Hatch's corporate development and investments as global managing director, guiding Hatch's growth and diversification by establishing and applying Hatch's capital allocation principles and strategies. He works with all business units and practices to find and develop opportunities to invest Hatch capital in external businesses and projects.
Andrew also oversees and shapes Hatch's private ownership structure. He has led transactions in many of Hatch's regions, moving across the US, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, the UK, Germany, Australia, Russia, and South Africa.
Andrew began his career at Deloitte, where he was the leader and manager of a technical international tax team in London, UK. Upon joining Hatch, he established a new tax director role and spearheaded development of an internal tax team.
In 2015, he led a significant restructuring to streamline Hatch’s corporate structure and improve shareholder tax positions, adapting to Hatch’s growing global operations. During his time at Hatch, he has carried out many novel initiatives, including the creation of Hatch’s investment committee guidelines and procedures, and development of a new commercial model for delivering projects in multiple jurisdictions.
He has led, negotiated, and structured transactions for Hatch’s largest business integrations, including the Hatch Mott JV restructure, the LTK integration, and the Küttner integration.
Andrew holds an honors bachelor of arts from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a chartered accountant with CPA Ontario; he has also completed the In-Depth Tax and International Tax Specialist programs with CPA Ontario.
Outside of Hatch, he spends his time with his family, biking, skiing, and playing hockey and golf—or coaching and cheering from the sidelines.
