Challenges

  • As the world’s eighth largest economy, Texas leads the US in population growth with more than 3 million people projected to relocate to North Texas over the next 20 years.
  • Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) moves more than 220,000 passengers per day across a 700-square-mile service area. With a projected increase in ridership the demand for more robust transit service has also increased.
  • With 40 years of service, many of DART’s system elements are reaching end of life and require replacement. DART’s system modernization program aims to update system technologies and create mobility options that can meet today’s requirements and anticipate its future needs.

Solutions

  • Currently working as part of the North Texas Transit Partners (NTx) joint venture to replace DART’s light rail transit vehicles and help with the procurement of 476 buses.
  • Provided program management, vehicle and systems engineering and integration, and project controls for DART’s light rail modernization program.
  • As part of the joint venture to help support the modernizations of DART’s signaling system and maintenance facilities while enhancing the resiliency of the LRT vehicle operations to combat extreme weather.

Highlights

  • Leveraged our expertise to manage the modernization program and the strategic allocation of public funds from various regional, state, and federal programs.
  • Directly supported DART to address program challenges, including building stakeholder consensus and conducting public outreach.
  • The modernization program will enable widespread improvements to the service, safety, and accessibility of Dallas’ transit system with a direct impact on the local economy.
