Operational readiness planning and change management for major capital projects

Abstract

This paper describes an Operations-focused planning approach for major capital upgrade program (consisting of a number of individual projects) which considers all critical areas of integration that must be addressed for a successful handover and ramp-up to normal operation. Together with an Iron & Steel Client, Hatch utilized an Operational Readiness Planning approach which incorporated a new operational readiness planning tool into the client’s Hot Strip Mill upgrade program. Due to this facility’s stringent operational demands, operational readiness is extremely critical to ensure vertical start-ups after new equipment is installed.
