Abstract

Basic Oxygen Furnaces (BOF) generate significant dynamic loads during oxygen injection process. These loads should be properly estimated for a reliable structural design of BOF foundation and anchoring systems in order to avoid costly plant downtime and repairs due to excessive BOF vibrations. This paper presents a systematic methodology for characterizing BOF dynamic loads. This procedure consists of comparing dynamic responses of BOF system from Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to vibration measurements in order to characterize the generated dynamics loads.
