TAC Awards 2026

Hatch and TTC receiving their 2026 Canadian Innovation Initiative Award
Mississauga, ON – Hatch is proud to announce that the Feasibility Study of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Line 1 PCTL Replacement has been selected as the 2026 Canadian Innovation Initiative Award recipient by the Tunnelling Association of Canada (TAC). In addition, long-time Hatch leader Tomas Gregor has been honored with the Canadian Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his lasting impact on Canada’s tunnelling and underground construction industry.

The Canadian Innovation Initiative Award celebrates individuals or teams who have made significant contributions through exceptional engineering service, research, product development, technological advancement, or geotechnical and mechanical design. Hatch’s feasibility study reflects a collaborative effort focused on advancing innovative, resilient solutions for critical transit infrastructure in Canada. It included a low-risk, system-wide strategy to rehabilitate aging tunnel liners in Canada’s busiest subway while maintaining full operations.

“This recognition highlights the strength of collaboration and innovation across our teams and partners. We are proud to share this award with our client, the Toronto Transit Commission, and to see this work recognized by the Tunnelling Association of Canada.”
— Jean Habimana, director of Tunnels, Hatch

TAC also presented Gregor with its Canadian Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the organization’s highest honors, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, technical excellence, and service across engineering, construction, ownership, or supply roles.
