Hatch Chair and CEO John Bianchini to receive honorary doctorate from OCAD University

Toronto, Canada – John Bianchini, chair and CEO of Hatch, will be recognized by OCAD University for his exceptional achievements in the arts and culture sector with an Honorary Doctor of Laws at the university’s convocation ceremony on June 13.
An arts advocate and business leader, Bianchini draws inspiration from artistic creativity to guide his engineering work. He believes that art informs innovation, lending principles that solve the world’s most complex challenges. And he brings that belief to his leadership of Hatch, a global engineering, project delivery, and professional services firm.
Bianchini’s vision around the connectedness of engineering and art is embodied in the Hatch Gallery of Contemporary Art at the company’s Mississauga headquarters. Opened in 2017, the gallery serves as inspiration to Hatch’s workforce, bringing the scientific and artistic together for creative fusion.
Bianchini is a board member of the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Canada Institute, and the Foundation Board for the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Hatch and his family are avid supporters and philanthropic contributors to the arts community, including the National Gallery of Canada, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto, and the Toronto Biennial of Art.
Bianchini’s recognition by OCAD University highlights the importance of integrating arts and engineering, showcasing how creativity can drive innovation across various fields to create a better world.
“Both art and engineering are about creation, innovation, curiosity, imagination—and they are all about connection. And when combined, they influence. They transform. And today, this partnership is needed more than ever to shape and improve the social, environmental, and economic fabric of society. At Hatch we call this positive change and we live by it daily, wherever we work around the world.” – John Bianchini, chair and CEO, Hatch
“I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition from OCAD University. The arts have always been a powerful source of inspiration in my life and work. I believe that creativity and innovation—whether in art or engineering—are essential to solving the complex challenges we face,” shared Bianchini.
“This honor reaffirms my commitment to fostering a stronger connection between the arts and sciences, and to supporting the vibrant cultural institutions that enrich our communities.” – John Bianchini, chair and CEO, Hatch “We are excited to recognize these truly remarkable Canadians who are leaving indelible marks in the arts and culture sector around the world.
