London, UK - In parallel with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), Hatch and Etifor have partnered to deliver comprehensive consultancy services to organizations striving to align with the GBF targets and the Nature Positive Initiative. This global goal aims to halt nature loss by 2020, reach nature positive by 2030, and achieve full nature recovery by 2050, so that thriving ecosystems and nature-based solutions continue to support future generations. This collaboration will see both companies develop innovative solutions to help organizations assess, manage, and disclose their nature-related risks and opportunities.

According to the World Economic Forum, over half of the global GDP (44 trillion USD) faces significant financial risk due to nature-related factors, exacerbated by declining ecosystem integrity and drivers such as land and ocean use, climate change, pollution, and invasive species. As a result, it has become imperative for individuals, businesses, and societies to consciously adopt this approach by 2030, to ensure nature recovery.

Collaboration across all sectors is essential to help stop and reverse nature loss. These commitments will help companies scale up their existing efforts to drive local and regional partnerships to better protect and restore our landscapes and ecosystems for the benefit of all.

"All industries, including the extractive industries, rely heavily on natural capital, which includes minerals that are fundamental for manufacturing and the renewable energy transition. There is a growing realization that intrinsic links between business and nature are not only essential for navigating corporate risks but also for creating new opportunities for growth and business longevity. Our partnership with Etifor will allow us to support businesses in terms of emerging regulations and, just as importantly, promote sustainable growth for our clients.” Freddy Brookes, principal environmental scientist at Hatch.

“The path to a nature positive future cannot be traversed alone. It requires engagement at a sectoral level and across supply chains, bringing together actors with diverse backgrounds and expertise to align with the targets set by the Global Biodiversity Framework. Multifarious problems call for multifaceted solutions, and in that spirit, Etifor is proud to partner with Hatch to deliver science-based and evidence-led solutions for companies and financial institutions who are ready to contribute toward a nature positive future.” Wesley Snell, principal – natural capital and ecosystem services at Etifor.

This alliance combines Hatch’s decades of global engineering, project execution, and professional services expertise with Etifor’s innovative approach to sustainability consultancy. It will provide clients with a holistic solution to address environmental challenges while driving positive change. The consultancy services include:

  • Financial and impact (double) materiality assessments
  • Location-specific nature risk and opportunity assessments
  • Nature strategies for direct operations, supply chains, and investment portfolios
  • Science-based target-setting and disclosures
  • Impact avoidance and minimization solutions and project development for nature-based solutions.

Embracing a nature-positive strategy enables us to collectively preserve crucial natural ecosystems, reverse nature loss, safeguard our planet’s stability, and ultimately fortify our defenses against climate change.
