Hatch receives Friend of the Faculty Award from the University of Waterloo

Award honors Hatch’s commitment to training the next generation of engineers and innovators through support of the university’s Faculty of Engineering

December 14, 2021

Waterloo, Canada—Hatch has received the Friend of the Faculty Award from the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Engineering. In an online celebration hosted by Mary Wells, Dean of Engineering, the award was accepted by Vice Chair-USA, Bruce MacKay—a University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering alumni on behalf of Hatch.

The Friend of the Faculty Award recognizes an organization that has provided exceptional support for Waterloo Engineering. Each year, Hatch donates more than $2 million in scholarships and bursaries around the world, including $250,000 for the Kurt and Marianne Strobele Engineering Award and $150,00 for the Hatch Scholarship at the University of Waterloo. Additionally, Hatch has provided funding for NSERC postgraduate scholarships and the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science, Technology, and Mechanical Engineering.

Each year, Hatch hires hundreds of students throughout our offices. Since 1979, 900 of those students have been hired through Waterloo Engineering and 340 Waterloo alumni have gone on to work for Hatch upon graduating.

“We believe that to create these solutions, we need to have the best and brightest people—diverse teams from all around the world that come with unique and innovative ideas,” shared MacKay. “We seek to engage great people who make a difference, and we start by working closely with the universities and colleges in the places in which we work. It’s through these partnerships that we can support the next generation of innovators and leaders—people that we hope will find a home at Hatch and help in our mission to create practical solutions that are safe, innovative, and sustainable.”
