Hatch is helping the City of Mississauga chart the way

Hatch is helping the City of Mississauga chart the wayMississauga, Canada— Hatch is very pleased to announce that we have been commissioned by the City of Mississauga through a competitive procurement process to develop a new Economic Development Strategy, covering the period 2020-2025.

“We are pleased to work with Hatch along with our business community and residents to develop a new blueprint that truly reflects the needs and opportunities facing Mississauga’s business community,” said Bonnie Brown, Director of Economic Development. “We want to build on our previous success with the right ingredients to support Mississauga as a thriving hub where businesses and the community can innovate and grow.”

This important study will set out an ambitious framework for how Mississauga can grow, thrive, and prosper inclusively and sustainably. Mississauga is the sixth-largest municipality by population in Canada, with more than 770,000 people, and is home to more than 75 Fortune 500 Canadian Head offices. The strategy will be a forward-looking plan that builds on current city policies and further develops its economic relationships with the Greater Toronto region. It will establish priorities for action and investment and set out a clear vision for sector-led growth in the economy to maintain the city’s global competitiveness and the housing and communities that are needed to attract and retain workers into the future.

Hatch is providing economic research, advisory, and consultation services as part of this project through a team that leverages international experience and perspective with local knowledge.

“This is an opportunity for Hatch to partner closely with the City of Mississauga to develop a compelling economic narrative for the city, which is home to our Canadian global delivery center,” said Simon Hooton, Hatch’s project director. “Many of our employees live here and we are looking forward to bringing our international expertise on city competitiveness to help one of Canada’s most important cities to grow.”

Though Hatch has long been known in the region and around the world for its engineering solutions in the infrastructure, energy, and mining sectors, the company strengthened its position in the urban solutions and economic analysis and strategy space in 2018 with the acquisition of leading economic consultancy firm, Regeneris. Together, our experts bring extensive expertise in social and economic research and analysis combined with local knowledge of the region and practical, technical understanding of urban development.

“Projects like this are what we love to tackle at Hatch—an opportunity to help create positive change through thoughtful and effective strategy to maximize economic, and social benefits for a strong and sustainable growth trajectory” said Michael Sutherland, Hatch’s Director for Urban Solutions, Canada.
