Hatch celebrates Nsolv receiving Canada’s Clean50 and Clean16 Awards

September 29, 2015

As a founding partner, Hatch is proud to celebrate Nsolv’s recent recognition as an Honouree of  Canada’s Clean50 for 2016.

Each year, Canada's Clean50 recognizes fifty leaders who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability in Canada. From that group, leaders are identified in each of sixteen categories to join Canada's Clean16 as the top contributor in their category. Nsolv’s patented oil extraction technology was recognized in the Research and Development category, receiving the Clean16 award.

“Hatch continues to provide both financial and technical support to Nsolv, after a decade of development,” explains Hatch CEO John Bianchini.  “We believe that innovative technologies such as Nsolv will help us create a cleaner, more sustainable future for the oil extraction industry.”

Founded in 2003, Nsolv Corporation is a Canadian clean-tech energy company devoted to solving the operational and environmental problems of heavy oil extraction. Hatch has provided technical and financial support to Nsolv since 2004 and is a major equity partner, along with co-owners Enbridge and Nenniger Inc.

"We are extremely proud to join Canada's Clean50 this year and are appreciative to the organizers for this recognition," said Joseph Kuhach, CEO of Nsolv. "Our technology offers a huge step forward for the industry by enabling environmental and economic sustainability within oil sands development."

Nsolv's warm solvent technology for in-situ projects reduces the environmental impacts of heavy oil extraction by eliminating water consumption while reducing energy inputs, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste. Nsolv’s benefits are even more important in today's low oil price environment, by offering a higher rate of return on investment and producing better quality oil.

To validate Nsolv technology for commercial use, Hatch engineered and built a $70-million pilot project located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, which began operating in 2014. Earlier this month, the pilot surpassed a key milestone by producing 60,000 barrels of oil, while meeting key performance indicators.
