Open Group Web-based GPS-X Training course

May 25 & May 31, 2022

Hatch and Hydromantis (a member of the Hatch group) modelling experts will introduce and demonstrate GPS-X.

This course is about the modelling of wastewater treatment plants and the use of GPS-X as a simulation tool. A successful outcome of a modelling project requires a clearly defined goal, knowledge of modelling and an understanding of GPS-X. The need to understand these important aspects of wastewater treatment modelling cannot be underestimated.

The course is organized into topic presentations and hands-on training exercises.

Time is also set aside to address user-specific questions and participants are encouraged to bring existing plant models to work on. This forum will provide an excellent opportunity for participants to get feedback and insights into modelling wastewater treatment systems.

Participants will be introduced to the concept of Calibration from the point of view of what is involved, approaching the task, data requirements and influent characterization. In addition, participants will be getting instruction on customizing GPS-X including how to make use of the powerful GPS-X feature and why customization is done.

The ‘speed’ at which such models can be developed will allow the participants will have more time to analyze their issues of interest to drive improvements.

After the two sessions Modelling & Simulation course, you will have achieved the following:

  • Completed the official “what is modelling” syllabus
  • Become skilled in the use of GPS-X
  • Identified required data for collection and a data analysis methodology
  • Developed a modelling methodology and simulation approach to achieve the most cost-effective use of time.
  • Developed a GPS-X model or series of models for a selected area of interest.
  • Developed an understanding of the next steps and an action plan for the use of models in the future.
  • Developed an understanding of how simulation can be used to enhance treatment operations and how to use GPS-X to facilitate that simulation work.
