Sleeping out for our communities—Hatch leaders raise more than $85K to help break the cycle of homelessness

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout fundraisesIn Australia, across five cities, seven Hatch leaders participated in the St Vincent de Paul Society’s CEO Sleepout. In a one-night event over one of the longest and coldest nights of the year, hundreds of business, community, and government leaders slept outdoors to support the many Australians who are homeless.

More than 116,000 Australians experience homelessness every night, and 32 percent are children. The Vinnies CEO Sleepout fundraises to provide vital access to food, accommodation, and essential services to people who need them. The organization raised A$6.9 million in 2018 and this year set the goal to raise A$7.1 million to make an even bigger impact.

The community came together to support our Hatch leaders and the results exceeded expectations. Together, Hatch leaders in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Adelaide raised over A$40,000 of donations from colleagues, clients, and the greater community. Hatch generously matched the fundraising efforts bringing the total funds to more than A$85,000. The individual fundraising efforts were significant with five of the Hatch participants ranking within the top 15 fundraisers in their respective cities.

“Each of us are only one step away from someone who is impacted by homelessness in Australia. Our simple gestures can make a huge difference in providing education, counselling, employment and health services to help our communities overcome poverty in the long term,” said Claude D’Cruz, director, Metals, Australia-Asia. “Hatch is committed to giving back to the communities in which we work and live, and we encourage our employees to champion causes that are near and dear to their hearts. Events like the CEO Sleepout provide us with a way to support those causes in a meaningful way.”

The CEO Sleepout is held annually in June. For more information, visit the Hatch team page or visit https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/
