Hatch featured as a Best Managed company in recent research report by Deloitte

April 13, 2018

Hatch featured as a Best Managed company in recent research report by Deloitte Toronto, Canada— As a Best Managed Companies recipient for eleven consecutive years, Hatch is featured in Deloitte’s recently released report, Outlast and outperform: Insights from Canada’s most successful companies.

Hatch is highlighted in a section, “Look Beyond Our Borders,” which makes the case for Canadian companies expanding their operations globally, and the benefits that brings. According to the report, companies with global exposure tend to be more productive and resilient, and outperform their less-outward-oriented peers. Hatch began in 1955 in Canada, but has expanded its operations globally over the years. The company now has 9,000 staff in 65 offices worldwide. “As our clients went global, we realized the ‘quintessentially Canadian’ challenges we solve and the skillsets we’ve developed are just as applicable to global problems as they are to Canadian ones,” said John Bianchini, Hatch CEO.

The report is in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Best Managed Companies program, which Deloitte co-leads. It includes a collection of lessons from the past 25 years that could be applied today, and in the future. Since its inception in 1993, the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program has selected and featured the country’s most successful and enduring private companies annually. The program selects up to 50 privately held companies that demonstrate exceptional strategy, capability, commitment, and return on investment.

In this report, Deloitte indicates that in Canada, only a few thousand of our 1.2 million firms are publicly traded, while private businesses produce approximately 70 percent of all corporate profits; therefore, Canada’s prosperity is tightly intertwined with the success of these companies.

What differentiates the Best Managed companies from average businesses? The report specifies that the Best Managed set themselves apart in four key ways: a deeply ingrained focus on the long-term, intentional approaches to innovation that are rooted in meeting the needs of clients, a strong global orientation, and a relentless focus on their people. All are supported by a strong vision and focus on the future—taking action today to prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.

About Canada’s Best Managed Companies

Canada's Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $15 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. The awards are granted on four levels: 1) Canada’s Best Managed Companies new winner (one of the new winners selected each year); 2) Canada’s Best Managed Companies winner (award recipients that have re-applied and successfully retained their Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review); 3) Gold Standard winner (after three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully retained their award for 4-6 consecutive years); 4) Platinum Club member (winners that have maintained their Best Managed status for seven years or more). Program sponsors are Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business, TMX Group and MacKay CEO Forums. For further information, visit www.bestmanagedcompanies.ca.
