The design developed by the Paradigm Hyperloop international student team, with support from Hatch, is being entered in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition in California

Mississauga, ON—Hatch is proud to be the platinum sponsor of the Paradigm Hyperloop team. The group is a mix of engineering students and recent graduates from Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Boston's Northeastern University in the United States.

The team will be competing in the Hyperloop Pod Competition II on August 25-27, 2017, at SpaceX's Hyperloop track in California. Their design of this revolutionary form of high-speed transport, which is based on the original proposal developed by Elon Musk in 2013, will be tested and put through its paces. It will feature the pod on air bearings while most of the other competitors are using magnetic levitation.

Hatch also expects to provide project delivery services and overall mentoring to Paradigm as the team continues to develop and refine its technology in the coming months.

Mark Cumby, Hatch's regional director, energy, for Eastern North America, explains, "We're delighted to be collaborating with Paradigm and bringing our engineering services to the student team throughout this project. It's another good example of how industry, colleges, and universities can collaborate together to create new technologies."

"This new technology is also in line with our long history of transit development and infrastructure engineering," says Nicolas Théberge, division manager, infrastructure, for Hatch's Eastern North America region. "In Canada alone, we are currently overseeing more than $40 billion in transit projects. Although nascent, this so-called fifth mode of transportation—after air, car, rail, and water—has the potential to revolutionize everyone's understanding of infrastructure and what it means to have a faster and cheaper mode of transportation."
