In a new era of positive change, we’re harnessing the knowledge of our global teams and emerging technologies to improve productivity and efficiency to deliver more sustainable outcomes. An important part of helping our clients in a challenging market is integrating sustainability goals into the early stages of every project and establishing the social license to operate.

This year, at the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum’s annual conference, we’re bringing the best social risk and management experts to speak on where sustainability begins—from a corporate to project-driven environment. Mohammed Ali and Olivia Gamache, our speakers, will deliver compelling presentations as part of the Sustainable Organizations technical stream.

Ali is a regional director in our environmental services group and a member on the steering committee for the United Nations Environment Programme Life Cycle Initiative. He specializes in life cycle assessments, environmental greenhouse gas management, and environmental project management. His presentation, titled “Developing sustainable organizations through corporate culture”, will take place on Monday, May 2 at 2:00 pm in room 119. We’re pleased to announce Ali will be receiving CIM’s Central District Distinguished Service Award during the conference, in recognition of his significant contributions to the mineral industry and local CIM institute.

Gamache is an environmental and social risk consultant in our environmental services group. She has extensive experience working with communities around the world in increasing engagement, local employment, business development, and training and capacity building. Her presentation, titled “Local content and sustainable community planning” will take place on Wednesday, May 4, at 10:30 am in room 119.

Well-deserved congratulations also go to Chris Twigge-Molecey, who during the CIM awards gala on May 2, will receive the CIM Distinguished Service Medal for his meritorious service to the mineral industry and CIM. Twigge-Molecey is a past winner of the Airey Award, one of the most prestigious awards in Canadian metallurgy, Past President of CIM, and is currently Deputy Chair of the Canadian Mining Innovation Council. Twigge-Molecey has served in many diverse roles with Hatch, including board member, during his 43 years (and counting).

The sponsored Hatch-CIM Safety Award will also be given on May 2 during the CIM awards gala for outstanding project safety systems, culture, and performance.
