Hatch awarded Project of the Year for largest transit expansion in Toronto's history

Toronto, Canada—Hatch is extremely proud to be a key member of the project team recognized by the Tunnelling Association of Canada with its 2018 Canadian Infrastructure Project of the Year award. Hatch was presented with the award at the TAC/NASTT-NW conference gala on November 9th.

The Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project is part of an investment by the Ontario provincial government to expand transit in the Toronto, Canada area. The project is being developed by Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario, to provide 19 kilometres of LRT service within the city of Toronto along Eglinton Avenue.

Upon completion in 2021, this will be the first LRT constructed in Toronto, and the largest transit expansion in the history of the city. Not only will it will link regional and local transit corridors, it will also cut travel time along the route by half and provide over a thousand jobs during construction.

Hatch’s work included the preliminary project design, procurement, and assistance for early works items. As the project progressed, we provided detailed design of the tunnel alignment, precast tunnel liners and structures, along with utility relocation, construction management, and program management services.
